Historic Hotel Expert Stanley Turkel Dies at 96

Stanley Turkel, an avid chronicler of historic hotels, passed away on August 12, 2022, after a brief illness. His family announced his death on stanleyturkel.com, his self-titled blog that is a trove of hotel history. He was 96.

Turkel specialized in writing detailed profiles of historic hotels of New York, where he was also a civic activist. His last posts were about Hotel Martinique (in NYC), Paso Robles Inn (in California), and Wentworth by the Sea (in New Hampshire).

Hopefully, the family will be able to preserve this trove of social history.
